Context

Montani International runs Valore, where students rent, buy and sell new and used college textbooks. The business wanted to run many branded storefronts without maintaining a separate application for each one, and a team of three engineers built the platform to do it.

Problem

Each new storefront meant weeks of setup, and the legacy checkout flow was confusing enough to generate a steady stream of support tickets. The payment gateway was a third-party implementation that was hard to maintain and caused production incidents.

What I did

  • Was one of the three engineers on the team that took the platform from concept to production.
  • Worked with the team on the multi-storefront model, so a single shared codebase serves any number of white-label storefronts.
  • Developed the core customer flows: customisable storefront pages, transactional email templates, sign-up, checkout and order confirmation.
  • Led the migration of the payment gateway from the legacy third-party implementation to an internally integrated solution.
  • Kept releases fast and safe with TDD and CI/CD on GitHub Actions.

Impact

  • New storefronts launch in days rather than weeks.
  • Clearer checkout and confirmation flows improved conversion and reduced support tickets.
  • The in-house payment integration is easier to maintain and reduced production incidents.
